I’m pleased to share my interpretation of Roger Kalia’s story and reflections on his experience conducting Penelope, A Song Cycle.

The power in the music and libretto of Penelope showers me with so many emotions — loss, grief, remorse, pain, melancholy. And yet I also have a sense of peace, tranquility and comfort throughout.

~ Roger Kalia, Conductor, Symphony NH

The tranquility, peacefulness of the melody changing into tense, hot feelings, and then - dying back to a melancholy, resignation and ambience… In my mind I saw an open vase; cool blue sky and fallen soft leaves. Gradually it moved into intense, orange, pink and red translucent colors of crying heart… The hope is there, and it brings in the acceptance and peace."

~ Galina Szakacs, Artist

Vase measures 4” x 5”, polymer clay on glass.
