'Different Beauty'

Kintsugi vases and bowl

My good friend Tanya Prather, Ecoprint Artist on Fiber & Clay, introduced me to Kintsugi. When I expressed my disappointment about one of her vases being broken, she said: "We can try to put it together, it still can be beautiful."

I decided to experience it with my clay on glass work.  My old notion of  "perfection" was challenged when I expected to see an "old" beauty in bringing pieces into a whole.  I caught myself trapped in this "should be" belief several times, while choosing the shape of "broken pieces", color of "glue"...

This feeling of breaking barriers was full of play, curiosity and anticipation! The beauty did appear!  It was different beauty!"
