‘Love and loss. Fragile and transparent feelings. Lonely, grey thoughts. The days are dark with a thin line of hope.’

I was inspired to create ‘Penelope’ after a very moving performance by Symphony New Hampshire. This vocal and orchestral piece is filled with emotion and tells the story of a man who returns home after a long absence at war. He has lost his memory of who he is and who his wife is. So she attempts to restore his identity and their bond by reading The Odyssey to him. In Greek mythology, the war hero Odysseus spends 20 years trying to get back home to his beloved Penelope. It’s ultimately a story about relationships, compassion, and healing.
